--There are 6 letters of Mrs. Monroe in existence. James Monroe destroyed all others upon her death. One of her letters at the Monroe Library, circa 1790 was written to Margaret Stone, grandniece of Thomas Stone, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Letter is of a personal nature and describes how much she hates Philadelphia, and that her children and husband are doing well.
